Ivan Vsevolozhsky fue Director de los Teatros Imperiales de Rusia entre 1881 y 1898. A él le debemos, entre otras cosas, los ballets creados por Tchaikovsky y Petipa entre los que se encuentran La bella durmiente o la imagen navideña por excelencia, el ballet El cascanueces. También fue idea suya el estreno de óperas como Iolanta o La dama de picas.
Vsevolozhsky tuvo tiempo para escribir libretos y diseñar escenografías y vestuario para ballets.
Además, en su gestión administrativa, logró importantes subidas salariales para los trabajadores de los teatros y en los porcentajes de beneficios de los autores.

Ivan Vsevolozhsky was the Director of the Imperial Theatres in Russia between 1881 and 1898. Among other things, we must thank him most of the ballets created by Tchaikovsky and Petipa: for example, The Sleeping Beauty… and the most quintessential image of Christmas, The Nutcracker. He also commissioned operas like Iolanta or The Queen of Spades. Vsevolozhsky also found time to write most of their libretti and designed sets and costumes for ballets.
