Siempre he dicho que lo mejor de Tamara Rojo no son sus pies, sino su cabeza.
En los Teatros del Canal de Madrid, organizado por British Council, conduje una conversación con Tamara frente al público que abarrotaba la Sala Roja, coincidiendo con las actuaciones de English National Ballet, compañía que dirige la española. Los responsables de los Teatros han hecho ahora pública la charla, en un gesto que revela la actitud que algunos defendemos acerca de la cultura asequible y accesible. No nos valen las ediciones limitadas ni los eventos exclusivos; queremos bailar para el mundo y que además lo cuelguen en YouTube.
Cerré nuestra charla con una pregunta que me llegó a través de un usuario de Twitter -de nuevo, asequible y accesible- y que aquí reproduzco, en palabras de Tamara Rojo:
“El mayor aprendizaje o valor que uno se puede traer de English National Ballet es reconocer que (…) el ballet es el arte más democrático que existe porque abre sus puertas a niños de todas las clases sociales, que les da la oportunidad de ser estrellas vengan de donde vengan , y que además es transportable al mundo entero porque tiene un lenguaje internacional. Por tanto, es algo que debemos recordar siempre: que no estamos haciendo un ballet para unos pocos ni para unos privilegiados que saben más que los demás o que tienen más que los demás, porque es el arte más humano, el de la expresión corporal, el de bailar… lo hacen todas las tribus y todas las naciones, y por lo tanto tenemos que ser lo más ambiciosos posibles y no ponernos nosotros mismos restricciones de ningún tipo.”

I usually say that the best of Tamara Rojo is not her feet, but her mind.
I conducted a conversation with Tamara -Artistic Director of the English National Ballet– at the Teatros del Canal in Madrid before the public which packed out the Sala Roja, as ENB was performing there those days. Teatros del Canal just made it public showing the attitude we defend about affordable and accessible culture. We do not want limited editions and exclusive events, but to dance for the world and then post it in YouTube.
The last question of our conversation came to me from a Twitter user -again, affordable and accesible- and here you have what Tamara answered:
“The biggest value that you can get from the English National Ballet is to recognize that (…) ballet is the most democratic art because it welcomes children from all social classes, giving them the chance to be stars wherever they come from, and it is also transportable to the whole world because it has an international language; therefore, it is something we should always remember. We’re not doing ballet for a few people or for those privileged who know more than others or have more than others, because ballet is the most human among the arts: it is the body language, the dancing… all tribes and all nations dance, and therefore we have to be as ambitious as possible and not to set ourselves any restrictions.”
