El Ballet Kirov

Gracias a este documental descubrí, a los 10 años de edad más o menos, la magia absoluta del Ballet Kirov de Leningrado. Luego pasó a llamarse Mariinsky, la ciudad San Petersburgo… y las cosas cambiaron un poco. A finales de la década de 1970, en el Kirov todavía regaban el suelo de madera en las salas de danza y las bailarinas usaban aquellas puntas duras que machacaban con martillos; todo era muy soviético.

Aquí vemos a Sokolov dando clase y a Kourgapkina ensayando a una jovencísima Chenchikova; Doudinskaya aún se movía con soltura, libre de sus problemas de rodilla, y Assylmuratova estaba a punto de graduarse en la Escuela Vaganova.

Para no perderse, el repaso que la legendaria Alla Shelest da a una pobre bailarina a la que está preparando para Les Sylphides de Fokine; en poco más de tres minutos (a partir del 25’08’’), te explica lo que es el trabajo de épaulement, lo que se puede hacer con la danza académica y por qué, pudiendo tener quizás una vida más cómoda, algunos nos dedicamos a esto.

Watching this documentary I discovered, when I was about 10, the magic of Leningrad’s Kirov Ballet. The company later changed the name into Mariinsky, the city became St. Petersburg… and everything changed a little bit. At the end of the 70’s, the dancers still had to water the wooden floor of the dance studio and the ladies wore those stiff pointe shoes that they had to hit with their hammers; everything was really Soviet.

Here you will find Sokolov teaching and Kourgapkina rehearsing a very young Chenchikova; Doudinskaya was still able to walk, free from her knee injuries, and Assylmuratova was ready to graduate from Vaganova School.
