Parece evidente que las piernas de las bailarinas cuentan entre las más sólidas -y peligrosas- del planeta. Recuerdo que una vez, siendo niña, un malentendido doméstico nos dejó fuera de casa con las llaves dentro y los cerrojos echados. Mi madre, ni corta ni perezosa, propinó una patada a la altura del picaporte que arrancó la puerta, el marco de dentro y parte de la pared. A eso me refiero.
Hoy, documentándome para un trabajo que tengo entre manos, he descubierto una anécdota que supera a la anterior.
La gran bailarina romántica Fanny Elssler, famosa por su interpretación de La Cachucha y su rivalidad con Marie Taglioni, fue también la primera en cruzar el Atlántico y triunfar en América. Parece que durante su viaje en barco fue atacada de forma muy agresiva por un marinero más que atrevido, a lo que ella respondió -cómo no- con una patada. El atacante murió pocos días después. Ay.

I remember once, as a child, a domestic misunderstanding that kept us out of our apartment with our keys inside and the door locked. My mother, of course, kicked up to the door, next to the latch, tearing off the door, the frame… and part of the wall. That’s what I mean.
Today, doing some research for a paper, I found a story which exceeds my anecdote.
The great romantic ballerina Fanny Elssler, famous for her dancing of La Cachucha and her rivalry with Marie Taglioni, was also the first European dancer to cross the Atlantic and succeed in America. It seems that during her long boat trip she was attacked very aggressively by an insolent sailor, to which she replied -of course- with a kick. The attacker died a few days later. Ouch.
