En 2009, moderé el quinto Encuentro Loewe con la Danza en la Residencia de Estudiantes de Madrid en forma de coloquio sobre danza y patrimonio con Carmen Alborch y Goyo Montero. Lo pasamos muy, muy bien.
Pero cuando señalé la escandalosa ausencia del ballet como seña de identidad cultural en la Constitución Europea, me llevé un elegante rapapolvo por parte de la ex-Ministra y entonces Senadora: “Aquí aprovecho la oportunidad para decir que la ciudadanía en general deberíamos involucrarnos más, y si se está en el proceso de elaboración de la Constitución Europea, y echamos a faltar que no se menciona la danza o el ballet, pues tendríamos que, como ciudadanos activos, decir: ‘¡Oiga, que se han olvidado de nosotros!’ Porque a veces parece que delegamos demasiado. Por otra parte quiero añadir que precisamente el origen de la UE era la cultura; luego se ha reconvertido en un tema más de mercado, pero realmente, si hay algo de lo que la llamada ‘Vieja Europa’ se tiene que sentir muy orgullosa, es de nuestra cultura y de nuestras artes. Ahí tendríamos que ser todos más activos. Pero no es culpa, es responsabilidad”.
Echaremos mucho de menos a una mujer así.

In 2019, I moderated the 5th Encuentro Loewe con la Danza at Residencia de Estudiantes in Madrid, with Carmen Alborch and Goyo Montero. We spoke about dance and heritage and we had a great time.
But when I told her about the scandalous absence of ballet as a distinguishing feature in the European Constitution, the ex-Minister and then Senator scolded me with elegance: “Now I take this opportunity to say that we the citizens should get involved more often, and if in the process of writing the European Constitution we miss dance or ballet, we should say, as active citizens: ‘Hey, you forgot us!’ Because sometimes it seems that we delegate too much. And I want to add that the origin of the EU is precisely our cultural background; then it became more like an economic issue, but if there is something from which the Old Europe should feel proud is our culture and our Arts. We all should be more active. It is not our fault, but our responsibility”.
We are going to miss a lady like her.
