Hoy inauguramos una primavera salvaje que ya hubieran querido para sí Nijinsky, Diaghilev, Stravinsky y Roerich. La consagración de la primavera de 1913, con todo el jaleo que levantó, apenas tuvo 9 representaciones -contando el ensayo general- entre París y Londres. Después Diaghilev la dejó caer del repertorio de los Ballets Russes hasta que en 1920 le encargó una nueva coreografía a Léonide Massine. El estreno del ballet fue un escándalo que todavía se recuerda en el que los gritos del público impedían a los bailarines, desde el escenario, oír la música que salía del foso de la orquesta. Este maravilloso documental de la BBC narra las peripecias del montaje y el estreno de una forma realista y conmovedora.
La consagración de la primavera representa la barbarie humana, el salvajismo de una tribu que sacrifica a una doncella, elegida de forma aleatoria, para consagrar el nacimiento de la primavera. Al final va a resultar que tener que quedarnos en casa no es para tanto.

The Rite of Spring of 1913, with all the commotion that it raised, had only 9 performances -counting the dress rehearsal- in Paris and London. Then, Diaghilev dropped it from the Ballets Russes repertoire until 1920, when he commissioned a new choreography from Léonide Massine. The premiere of the ballet was a scandal that we still remember; the shouts of the audience impeded the dancers, on stage, from hearing the music coming from the orchestra pit. This BBC documentary tells wonderfully the story of the staging and premiere of the ballet in a realistic and moving way.
The Rite of Spring represents human barbarism, the savagery of a tribe that sacrifices a maiden, chosen randomly, to consecrate the birth of spring. In the end it will turn out that having to stay at home is no big deal.
