En Los cuatro jinetes del Apocalipsis, de 1921 y basada en la novela de Blasco Ibáñez, Valentino bailó el que muchos consideran el primer tango filmado de la historia del cine, y no es difícil imaginar la estupefacción que provocaría en el público anglosajón una danza tan contenida, y a la vez tan pasional.
